HISTORY STARTS SOMEWHERE.
The beginning of the current church started as the Old Ford Meeting House November 6, 1823. In 1846 the church had 160 members on roll. On September 26, 1892, Old Ford established the Disciples Christian Institute Bible College headed by Professor R. T Rightsell with 6 bible students enrolled. Later the college was moved to Aden, NC.
In 1948 under the leadership of Luther Ambrose the Old Ford Christian Church became an independent New Testament Church. The Church began having a full-time minister with weekly services in 1952.. The Church flourished throughout the years and in 1973 needed additional space. In 1973 the Old Ford School House across Hwy 171 was up for auction. Old Ford Church of Christ purchased the property on February 2, 1973. Remodeling was started at once and the yearly Homecoming Rally was held in the New Church of Christ Building on October 14, 1973. A dedication was held on December 9, 1973.
The Old Church property on the south side of NC Hwy 171 was sold to the Assembly of the Children of God Christian Church on December 5, 1991.
In 1998 Old Ford Church of Christ added a 11,200 square foot multipurpose building to its campus. On March 29, 1998, the Family Life Center was dedicated in memory of Bob Braziel, minister of Old Ford Church of Christ from 1987 until 1992. His son, Reggie Braziel was the dedication speaker. The 46 x 80 square foot two story section of the Family Life Center building’s first floor consisted of an entrance foyer, restrooms, kitchen, large meeting room and offices. The upstairs was finished as a large room with capabilities to be section off in the future if the needs required. An 80 x 94 square foot open activity area comprised the remaining area of the building.
Retrofitted in phases, the current building’s two-story section has a nursery room on the first floor, and the upstairs has three classrooms, an office, a worship area, restrooms, and a small refreshment seating area. The large open activity area was redesigned in the spring of 2021 adding a permanent music worship team stage area.
Currently the Church offers a 9:00am Contemporary Service in the Family Life Center, 10:00am Sunday School with classes in both buildings and a 11am Traditional Service in the Main Building Sanctuary. Reggie Braziel is the current Minister.
WHAT WE BELIEVE.
ABOUT GOD
We believe in one God eternally existing in three persons; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 28:19 (NIV) “Therefore go and make disciples, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
ABOUT THE BIBLE
We believe that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God.
II Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV) All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that
the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
ABOUT JESUS
We believe that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the Living God. (John 3:16) We believe that Christ came into this world in the flesh, that He was crucified for our sins, that He was buried, that He arose from the dead, and that He is coming back again. We believe that Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation.
John 14:6 (NIV) Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
ABOUT SALVATION
We believe the forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life is available to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. We believe that salvation is a gift of God’s grace (Ephesians 2:8) ; but in order to receive God’s gift of eternal life, one must obey the scriptures by coming to Christ BY FAITH (Ephesians 2:8) BELIEVING that Christ alone can save (John 3:16) and REPENTING or “turning away” from the life of sin (Acts 2:38) and CONFESSING one’s faith in Christ (Romans 10:9) and being BAPTIZED or “immersed” into Christ for the remission of sins and the gift of God’s Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38)
Galatians 3:27 (NIV) “For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.”
